Making Heaven More Crowded

The Brussels Team

Meet the Red Rocks Brussels Team! A group of friends who are passionate about Jesus, people, and the church and believe God is up to something in Europe! What started as a crazy dream many years ago in Denver has turned into an international family. As a team, they are proud to be living proof that if God can use them, He can use anyone. Combining their love for culture, travel, and faith the team works together to make Heaven more crowded by serving and celebrating the city of Brussels.

Tyler Hoffman

Tyler Hoffman

Tyler is originally from Pennsylvania, but has a great passion for Europe and the nations represented in Brussels. Tyler actually met Joy while in Brussels for a service project, and they spent the first three years of their marriage working for Young Life in Brussels before moving to Italy. Tyler loves outdoor adventure sports, playing with his three daughters, and learning about leadership. Fun fact: He hates gluten, and gluten hates him.

Joy Hoffman

Joy Hoffman

Joy had the unique experience of growing up in both Brussels and Colorado. She was drawn to the passion of Red Rocks for reaching the lost, and jumped at the opportunity to be a part of a spirital movement in Europe. Joy enjoys reading, the outdoors, exploring new food and cultures, and spending time with Tyler and their three beautiful daughters.

Brooke Davies

Brooke felt called to ministry from a young age, which has seen her be involved in churches all across the world. You’ll usually find Brooke trying to speak Frenglish to the elderly, or giving them a cheeky wave at bus stops, because they’re her favourite people. Being from the south, Brooke loves anything that involves sunshine, snow cones, or a chance to show off her southern hospitality (as well as her accent which has not faded) alongside her husband, Jack, and their son, Luke.

Jack Davies

Born and bread in the U.K., Jack is the only one that says and spells things a strange way. He’s our in-house tech geek, and loves nothing more than to ponder a technical problem that needs solving for church. Like Anthony, he’s a big Dave Ramsey fan and will find any excuse to talk about him. Jack loves watching rugby, laughing at silly social media videos whilst his wife Brooke, rolls her eyes at him, and listening to BBC radio 2 in the mornings.

Anthony Santiago

Anthony was born in the U.S. but spent most of his life in Spain. Ironically, he moved to Belgium to attend seminary at the same time Red Rocks Church launched their first international campus. He is committed to seeing the Church in Europe thrive, and is passionate about giving people opportunities to serve and share the love of Jesus through the local church. Anthony and his wife Victoria have one daughter. He enjoys everything about every sport, and is also Dave Ramsey’s biggest fan.

Our Story

Several years ago, the Lead Pastor of Red Rocks Church, Shawn Johnson, began taking yearly trips to encourage pastors and church planters in Europe. After passionately exhorting leaders that they should simply try and see what God can accomplish, he felt that God might be asking him to do the exact same thing.

Tyler and Joy had been working with Young Life in Italy when they were sensing that God may also be asking them to be part of building the church in Europe. They were invited to a church-planting seminar in Brussels so they packed up their car and drove to Belgium. They ended up in the same room with Shawn, who at the very end of his seminar said, “If anyone wants to talk about planting a church, come talk to me!” They took this as confirmation and began the conversation.

James and Brinnae were working for Red Rocks in Denver and heard whispers of a potential campus in Europe. After living abroad and watching their families undergo decades of missionary work, they were quick to offer their names for consideration.

After traveling to various cities throughout Europe, the team landed on Brussels, Belgium. Here was a city where the nations gathered; this convergence of Belgian nationals, military families, international students, and expats seemed like the ideal place for an English-speaking church to find a home. In 2016, Red Rocks Denver sent Tyler, Joy, James, and Brinnae to Belgium. Joy’s family had lived for over a decade in Brussels and had a connection to St. John’s International School, where the church finally launched on October 2, 2016.
