In this part of the Practices section, you will find resources and ways to engage in the specific practice of Silence. We are constantly surrounded by chaos and noise, but silence is the language of God. Silence frees us from the addiction to noise and productivity, and sets us at the feet of Jesus to be formed in a better way.
- Start your morning with a cup of coffee or breakfast, and sit in your favorite chair for about 10 minutes. Quietly whisper “come Holy Spirit” and surrender your thoughts to the Lord as they arise. This is not a productive prayer, but simply making space to be with God.
- At the end of your week, invite God to speak while you listen. Take about 20 minutes as you write down what you feel like he is saying to you.
- Once a month escape to a silent place, maybe somewhere in nature, a retreat center, or just a quiet room in your house. Take some extended time to be still and quiet. Don’t listen to headphones or music, simply abide with Jesus in the stillness and quiet.
